Borehamwood and Elstree Synagogue (BES) was established in 1955 and is one of the fastest growing and most vibrant Jewish communities in the UK. Following more than 30 years of inspired leadership from Rabbi Alan Plancey and his wife Miriam, Rabbi Dr Naftali Brawer and his wife Dina joined the community in summer 2007, upon the retirement of Rabbi Plancey.
We are one of the largest United Synagogue (US) communities, with more than 1,200 families. Every Shabbat, hundreds of members attend services, with at least 100 children and youth attending specific services each Shabbat and Yomtov.
Within the community, there is wide range of activities held on the synagogue complex each week, including daily and weekly services, educational programmes for adults and youth, and events specifically for the youngest members of BES.
