Bernie undertakes all aspects of the synagogue's maintenance and caretaking. This includes ordering supplies, setting up the shul and other rooms for services, doing security and meeting suppliers. Additionally, he sets up Gilah Nursery every morning.
He's a bit of an expert on Shabbat and the Jewish festivals and is always extremely accommodating to the community's needs (including setting up a Limmud minyan in the early hours after a communal Shabbat dinner). Without Bernie, the synagogue wouldn't function!
Nick is our assistant caretaker working with the Head Caretaker to ensure that the site is always ready for use.
He carries out many minor repairs to our building such as mending broken windows, changing light bulbs and unblocking drains. He makes sure the heating and lighting are on and off at appropriate times and that the premises are clean and rubbish is collected and taken away. He helps to ensure that the Shul, and rooms are prepared for whatever event is due to take place.
Nick is very practical and started work for the Shul with a wealth of experience from previous employment so can usually find a solution to most building problems.
