Following Rabbi Brawer's move to head a foundation, Rabbi Shimshon Silkin has been appointed as the community's Interim Senior Rabbi, leading the community while we look to appoint a permanent replacement.
Rabbi Silkin, born and raised in London, studied at the Shaarei Torah Yeshiva in Manchester and the Mir Yeshiva in Israel and received his Semicha at Yeshivat Haran in Ramot, Israel, as well as from Dayan Goldberg of the High Court of Jerusalem. He also holds a Degree in Rabbinic Education from the Jerusalem Leadership College.
Rabbi Silkin spent almost six years in the USA, mostly with the Dallas Torah Institute as the Director of Education at their branch in Plano, Texas, during which time he worked in the media co-hosting a weekly US national radio talk-show "Damon and the Rabbi" and writing a regular column for the Texas Jewish Post. Rabbi Silkin is currently a Senior Lecturer and Regional Director of the adult education organisation Seed. He also teaches Jewish Philosophy at Beth Jacob Grammar School and Menorah High School.
Sarah Silkin was born in Amsterdam, Holland, and grew up in Glasgow and Manchester where her father, Rabbi Avraham Tzvi Herman is the veteran Rav of the Higher Prestwich Hebrew Congregation.
She graduated with a Diploma in Education from the Teachers' Training College in Gateshead, where she was also appointed as Year Representative. Sarah has spent many years as a school teacher educating children in Jewish studies in Manchester, Jerusalem, St Louis, Dallas and London. She also makes regular appearances at local schools HJPS and Emmanuel College.
Sarah is well loved for her exceptionally warm character and challahs! Currently, Sarah works for Seed as co-ordinator for their Babies and Bagels, Shabbat PartyTime and other programmes, in Borehamwood and Elstree.
Shimshon and Sarah reside in Elstree with their 7 adorable children.
