Why Renovate?

No one who has visited our Shul premises over the past few years can have failed to notice the condition of our buildings and inadequacy of the facilities. Anyone who has looked closely will be even more shocked. Our current site is unwelcoming, uninspiring, poorly set out and crumbling. Hardly a reflection of the US Flagship Community.

The buildings are costing more and more each year to repair and maintain, and as our membership grows, the demands and wear and tear increase, causing further yet deterioration.

Systems and structures are failing with alarming regularity and are becoming increasingly more expensive to deal with as replacement parts become obsolete. Our maintenance costs are now around £60,000 per year (and rising) and when the cost of additional accommodation hire (tents) are included they exceed £70,000. Having recently received your Shul bills you will appreciate that this accounts for just under 10% being spent just to try and stem the decay, and for those unable to pay in full, the percentage is higher. The recent collapse of the ceilings in the main toilets is a good example of what we can expect more of.

It was recognised some years ago that this level of expenditure and increase in wear and tear was unsustainable and a sub committee of members, all of whom are experienced property professionals, was formed to consider the options.
